Botulinum toxin is the name of an active substance produced by bacteria called Clostridium botulinum.

Its main feature is that it has the property of blocking the motor nerve impulse transmission to muscles by preventing the release of a neurotransmitter known as acetylcholine. This agent is the link between the nerves and muscles, the latter indicating when and how hard to contract.
